I THANK GOD FOR THE END OF THE ROAD – PASTOR DEMETRIA C. MCCROSKEY, ED.D – 11-23-2026

TEXT: Ruth 1: 6-14

TITLE: I Thank God for The End of The Road

Introduction:

● Boys II Men

● What Does This Have to Do with My Life?

a. We all have a familiar journey that ended differently than expected.

i. Death, disappointment, disconnection, dreams deferred.

b. Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah stand where we’ve all stood—at the crossroads between what was and what now must be.”

What if the end of the road isn’t failure—but formation?

Point One – Reality: Some Roads Don’t Go All the Way (vv. 6–9)

● Naomi blesses them both, but life demands a decision.

● Orpah isn’t lesser—she’s human. She honors Naomi’s voice, her own limits, and her sense of responsibility at home.

● This moment reflects the life of returning citizens, women in ministry, or culturally marginalized people who constantly face choices between loyalty and survival.

● Life sometimes closes the door not because you lack faith, but because God’s grace reroutes you toward healing.

Point Two – Releasing: Sometimes Grace Says, “Go Home in Peace” (vv. 10–13)

● Naomi speaks the hard truth: “I can’t give you sons. My hands are empty.”

● Orpah listens. She obeys voice and reality, not guilt.

● The Holy Spirit invites truth-telling—naming loss and disappointment without shame.

Point Three – Redemption: Even My “Goodbye” Was Holy (v.14)

● Orpah kissed Naomi—an act of love, not betrayal.

● “She turned back—but she didn’t turn away from God.”

● God doesn’t abandon us when the plan falls apart—He joins us in the detour.

Prophetic challenge: What road is God calling you to end with dignity, and which ending is actually your invitation to walk by faith?
