Pastor’s Pen:
Lent 2026: From Ashes to Awakening (February 18 - April 2, 2026)
Why We Fast:
Fasting is not punishment — it’s participation. It’s a sacred, steady rhythm of faith and obedience, where we intentionally slow down, step away from, and make space for the Holy Spirit’s presence and our own healing. Lent reminds us that liberation begins with letting go. When we fast, we remember that everything we need has already been provided through Jesus. We remove what distracts us so the Spirit can restore our clarity, purpose, and communal joy.
How We Fast: Individual Responsibility, Shared Impact
Each believer is invited to choose their fast prayerfully. Consider where God may be calling you to surrender and redirect your efforts and energies to things that serve God’s Kingdom. This is your personal journey—but together, it becomes a testimony of Kingdom transformation.
Choose One (or Combine):
- Food: Choose at least one food item to give up for 40 days.
- Digital: Step away from social media or streaming one day a week.
- Consumption: Reduce spending or unnecessary buying.
- Spirit: Fast from gossip, cynicism, and negativity.
- Rest: Stop overworking; fast from busyness to rediscover peace.
*Note: We do not recommend going days without eating anything, especially for those who have dietary restrictions related to health. Pray and seek guidance (PCP, Pastor) if you have questions.*
How to Structure Your Fast
1. Pray First: Ask God, “What do You want to restore in me during this season? What are you calling me towards during this season?” Pray for yourself, your family, your community, and OUR church - Discipleship, Stewardship, Guardianship, and Partnership
2. Pair It with Scripture: Read Joel 2:12 -13, Esther 4:16, Daniel 10, Ezra 8:21-23, Nehemiah 1, Matthew 6:16-18, and Isaiah 58 and Acts 13:1-3 each week.
3. Stay Connected: Join us weekly for Church School and Worship on Sundays. Join us Wednesdays from February 18 - April 1 for Lenten Services at Progressive Baptist Church from 7-8 PM. JOIN A MINISTRY!
4. Expect Personal Transformation: The goal is not deprivation, but redirection—toward grace, wisdom, and sustainable discipleship. When one fasts, the body benefits. Let this Lent be both personal and communal—a chorus of prayer and purpose that stretches from our homes to our neighborhoods. As we surrender individually, God heals collectively. That’s the presence of God made visible.
