What Do I Do When Adversity Comes? WORSHIP! – Pastor Martin Childs Jr. D. Min.

TITLE: WHAT DO I DO WHEN ADVERSITY COMES? WORSHIP

TEXT: JONAH 1:1-3:4

YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING WRONG

  1. God, “Go to Nineveh…”
  2. Jonah went in the opposite direction
  3. Jonah knew that he was wrong…
  4. We know when we are wrong…

THEN, EVERYTHING GOES WRONG

  1. Because Jonah is doing everything wrong, everything goes wrong
  2. At times we are doing everything wrong
  3. Problem: At times we are doing everything wrong, then we are surprised when everything goes wrong…

WHAT DO YOU DO? WHY? ---- Before you answer:

  1. God is Omnipresent
    1. Jonah thought he could run from the presence of the LORD
    2. When we try to run from God, we ultimately run into Him
    3. Psalm 139:8-12
  2. God is Omnipotent
    1. The LORD sent a great wind on the sea causing a violent storm
      1. They tried to row to shore, but could not because the sea grew more violent against them
      2. After throwing Jonah into the sea, it calmed
    2. The LORD prepared a great fish that swallowed Jonah
  3. God is Omniscient
    1. God knew that Jonah was going to go to Nineveh to preach
    2. How? “When God tells me something today, He is already in the future watching it happen
    3. God also knew that Jonah needed some motivating…

WHY DO YOU WORSHIP GOD? GOD IS STILL BLESSING YOU

  1. Jonah realized in the midst of his disobedience, God was blessing
  2. The violent storm was an act of grace – a blessing
  3. The fish that swallowed Jonah was an act of grace – a blessing
  4. Grace? God could have chosen to kill Jonah…
  5. Sometimes, blessings are not what we receive, but what we do not receive
  6. Sometimes, blessings are not what we receive that appears to be good, but what we receive that appear to be bad

CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK:
