TITLE: SEEING IS DOING – PASTOR MARTIN CHILDS JR. D. MIN.

TEXT:  1 JOHN 5:1-4

                        TITLE: SEEING IS BELIEVING  DOING

INTRODUCTION

  1. People were using their human knowledgeto definewho Jesus was
  2. Paul countered their human knowledgeto defineJesus with the personal testimoniesof those who had a relationshipwith Jesus
  3. This led to tensions in John’s day between Fact and Faith
  4. The Jesus of History versus the Christ of Faith
  5. The Humanity of Jesus versus the Divinity of Jesus
  6. Greek Dualism: spirit is good and matter is evil
  7. Since God is spirit (good), God did not created the material world (evil)
  8. Docetism: Deity cannot unite with anything material (like a body).

Therefore, Jesus did not have a physical body

  1. Accordingly, Jesus was not born, Jesus did not suffer, Jesus did not die,

and Jesus did not resurrect from the dead

  1. 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4, For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures
  2. Those tensions are still present today…
