TITLE: HOW DO I KNOW THAT JESUS LOVES ME?

TEXT: JOHN 13:1-17

INTRODUCTION
A. This is the night before Jesus would be crucified

B. Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples

C. Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper with His disciples

D. Jesus washed His disciples feet

E. Jesus promised the indwelling of the Holy Spirit

F. Jesus is arrested and taken away to be tried and crucified

G. Before all of this took place…

PROJECTION OF JESUS’ LOVE – JESUS PUSHED HIS LOVE OUT
A. “having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end”

B. ”He loved them to the end”

1. Why specify loved to the end?

2. Why not just say, “He loved them?”

C. The disciples would do some things that would cause them to question if Jesus still loved them

1. Abandoned in the Garden

2. Betrayed by Judas

3. Cast off by disciples Canceled

4. Denied by Peter

D. Even though they did those things, Jesus loved them to the end
REFLECTION ON JESUS’ LOVE – JESUS PULLED HIS LOVE IN
A. “got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin
and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him”

B. Jesus washed His disciples feet

1. Washing feet was reserved for the lowest servant in the house
2. Jesus, their Teacher and Lord, washed their feet
3. More than an act of service, this was an act of love (not because He had to; he wanted to)

C. Jesus gave His disciples an encounter to personally reflect upon His love for them

WHAT ABOUT ME?

A. Have you done some things that have caused you to question if Jesus still loves you?

B. Have you had an encounter with Jesus in which you personally reflect upon His love for you?

C. Jesus loves me to the end…
