“Show Me Your Glory” – Pastor Edmund Davis

TEXT: 33:12-23

INTRODUCTION

What a huge request to make. He could not have asked for more: show me your glory! Perhaps it is the greatest petition that man ever asked of God. Moses requested an even greater sense of God’s Presence that had not been experienced by any person. This demonstrates that God rewards the seeking heart.

GOD’S PRESCENCE VS GOD’S GLORY

  • The Presence of the Lord is the most important attributes in our lives.
    1. Psalm 140:13, Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence (before your very face).”
    2. God is Omnipresent: God is everywhere at all times!
      1. Psalm 139:7, “Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?”
      2. The Omni-Presence of God is the believers security
    3. Indwelling Presence: To the believers God lives in you!
      1. This is a mystery. A great God living in frail people.
      2. Corinthians 3:16, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
  • GOD’S GLORY:
    • A special anointing for a special task at a specific time. 2 Chronicles 5:13, 14, “… then the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.”
    • Theophanous (appearance of God) A renewed sense of God’s Presence further evidence of God’s mercy. Exodus 16:10-11, “The glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, 'At twilight you shall eat meat…”

MOSES ASKS TO DRAW CLOSER TO GOD

  • Whatever experiences Moses had with God He wanted more!!!
  • He had witness the burning bush experience (Exodus 3)
  • He spent 40 days in the council chamber with God (Exodus 24)
  • God had just spoken with him face to face (Exodus 33:11)

GOD TELLS MOSES WHAT HE WILL SHOW HIM

  • My Goodness will pass before you: God’s glory lies in His goodness
  • Proclaim the name of the Lord before you: God reveal his character
  • You cannot see My face and live: No man can see Me and live

GOD REVEALED HIS GLORY WHEN HE PASSED BEFORE MOSES

  • Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock: Christ is my rock
  • I will put you in the cleft of the rock: Rock of ages let me hid myself…
  • Then I will take away me hand and you shall see my back.

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK
