TITLE: ONE STRIKE AND YOU’RE OUT - SOLOMON
INTRODUCTION
A. Are we taunting God regarding God’s patience and long suffering?
B. Solomon was the wisest and richest king of Israel
C. The Lord appeared to Solomon the 1st time – 1 Kings 3:5-14, 5… God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” 6 And Solomon said: “…give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil… 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing…, 12 behold, I have done according to your words…; 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor… 14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
D. The Lord appeared to Solomon the 2nd time – I kings 9:4, 5, 4 Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, 5 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever….’
E. David also told Solomon – 1 Kings 2:4, keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn
SITUATION
A. Solomon loved many foreign women
B. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines
WHAT GOD SAID
A. You shall not intermarry with them…
B. Surely they will turn away your hearts after other gods
WHAT SOLOMON DID
A. Solomon built places of worship for his wives’ gods
1. They turned Solomon’s heart away from the Lord God
2. They turned Solomon’s heart towards other gods
B. Solomon did not keep God’s covenants and statutes
WHY SOLOMON DID
A. Solomon was wise
B. Solomon was rich
CONSEQUENCE
A. The kingdom was torn away from Solomon
B. The kingdom was actually torn away from his son (will get one tribe)
