TITLE: MENDING THE BROKEN

INTRODUCTION

A. What does it mean to be broken?

B. The process of breaking – To break the will and spirit of the person

1. North American slavery

2. Domestic violence

3. Child abuse

C. The outcome of breaking – To cause the person to not know who they are, why

they are and to deplete their power to fight to discover and/or recover it

D. Some of us do not have people to help keep us from falling to the ground

JESUS KNOWS WHERE YOU ARE, AND HE IS ON HIS WAY

A. The Jewish people went out of their way to go around Samaria

B. Jesus needed to go through Samaria. Why?

C. Jesus needs to come to where you are

1. Jesus knows where you are

2. Jesus is on His way

D. Remember, Jesus does not run – He never did…

1. Lazarus (John 11:1-44) “The one You love is sick” “Lazarus is dead”

2. Jairus (Mark 5:21-43) “My little daughter is dying” “Your daughter is dead”

JESUS WILL COME AT AN UNUSUAL TIME, AT IN UNUSUAL PLACE, THROUGH AN UNUSUAL WAY

A. Jesus met her at noon, in the heat of the day

B. Jesus met her at a well

C. A conversation about water transforms her life

D. Maybe I need to adjust how I am looking for Jesus…

JESUS WILL REVEAL THE TRUE PROBLEM - BROKENNESS

A. She thought the problem was…

1. Having to come to the well – thirst

2. Having to come to the well at noon – guilt and shame

3. Having been unsuccessful in marriage – 5 husbands

4. Living with someone who is not her husband

B. Jesus revealed her true problem - brokenness

C. Note: Jesus never condemned her

JESUS HEALED HER TO WORSHIP HIM

A. She met Jesus, the Christ

B. She encouraged others to come and meet Jesus, the Christ

CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK:

THAT I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE AND BEGIN TO MEND MY BROKENNESS
