I ONCE WAS BLIND BUT NOW I SEE – Pastor Edmond Davis

TEXT: JOHN 9:1-25

INTRODUCTION

1. Our text today serves as a real-life illustration of the claim Jesus made in

John 8:12, “I am the Light of the world.”

1. John 9:5: “When I am in the world, I am the light of the world”.
2. Jesus met a man who is blind from birth. The disciples asked him who sinned that this person is blind from the time of birth. Jesus replied that neither the man nor his parents sin that he was born blind but that the work of God would be displayed in his life.

JESUS’ IDENTITY IS REVEALED BY THE HEALING OF THE BLIND MAN

1. “I have not come of Myself but He who sent Me is true” (John 7:28)
2. “In Him was life, and the life was the light of the world” (John 1:4)
3. “He is a prophet” (John 9:17)

JESUS HEALS ON THE SABBATH… BREAKING THE ORAL TRADITION

1. The Law prohibited working on the Sabbath
2. Jesus made some clay, which is saliva mixed w/dirt
3. Sabbath’s day journey
4. Hebrew word (siloah) = to send
5. The Father sent the Son, the Son sends the man born blind

HE PUT CLAY ON MY EYES, AND I WASHED, AND I SEE

1. THE NEIGHBORS: how could this be?
2. THE PARENTS: yes this our son born blind ask him he is of age
3. THE PHARISEES: could not believe because Jesus healed on the

Sabbath

“THIS IS A MARVELOUS THING”

1. “If anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.”
2. “ I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day”
3. “Do you also want to become a disciple”

CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK:

THE BLIND MAN SAW CLEARLY WHAT JESUS’ HEALING MEANT: THAT HE WAS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
