SERMON TITLE: HOW MUCH DO I LOVE JESUS?

HOW MUCH DO I GIVE? (Pt. I)

INTRODUCTION

A. My love for Jesus will be displayed in my giving to Jesus

B. The more I love Jesus, the more I will give to Jesus

C. Giving to Jesus assumes intimacy with Jesus

D. We tend to take Jesus for granted

WHAT SIMON DID NOT DO… (verse 44)

A. Although Simon invited Jesus to his house to eat with him…

1. Why did Simon invite Jesus to his house to eat with him?

2. Was it about Jesus or him?

B. Simon did the least

1. It was customary to have the feet of your guest washed

2. Simon did not wash Jesus’ feet

3. Simon did not have a servant wash Jesus’ feet

4. Worse, Simon did not give Jesus water to wash His own feet

C. What about me? Do I give Jesus the least?

1. Why do I pray to Jesus?

2. Why do I read the Bible?

3. Why do I come to church?

4. Why do I attend Sunday School and Bible study?

5. Why do I do What I do?

WHAT THE WOMAN DID DO… (verse 44)

A. First Note: Jesus permitted the woman to touch Him

1. She touched Jesus, being one of the untouchables

2. She touched Jesus personally

3. Jesus’ love for the woman was greater than her sins

B. The woman did the most

1. She entered into Simon’s house uninvited

2. She washed Jesus’ feet with her tears

3. She dried Jesus’ feet with her hair

C. What about me? Do I give Jesus the most?

1. What does the giving of my gifts and talents look like?

2. What does the giving of my tithes look like?

3. What does my giving in my ministry look like?

4. What does my giving to those I do not like look like?

5. Why do I do What I do?

D. Think about this: We had a debt that we could not pay. The payment of that debt was death (Romans 6:23) Jesus freely forgave us of that debt. Therefore, my love for Jesus is displayed in my giving to Jesus.
