TITLE: GOD, “DID I SAY THAT?”
INTRODUCTION
A. People tend not to be jealous of those who have less than them
B. “We are in the world, but not of the world.”
LIVING LIKE I AM ALREADY LIVING LIKE I AM GOING TO
IN HEAVEN HEAVEN ANYHOW
Living in such a “holy” state that I am Living like I am saved, my salvation is
disconnected from the people in this secure in Jesus and it is acceptable for
world and those things that contribute to me to do what I am doing because I
a prosperous and productive life already have my seat in heaven
WE ARE NOT OF THE WORLD
A. For those who are seeking to live holy and Godly lives…
B. “If you were of the world, the world would love its own”
C. “Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
HOWEVER, GOD SENDS US ON A CERTAIN MISSION INTO THE WORLD
A. “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world
B. “but that You should keep them from the evil one.”
C. “Sanctify them by Your truth.”
1. To set apart by God
2. To set apart for God
D. ”As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.”
1. Sent = To send forth on a certain mission
2. Jesus was sent on a certain mission into the world
3. Jesus sent the disciples on a certain mission into the world
4. And, Jesus sends us on a certain mission into the world
5. Therefore, we are not passively “in the world.” Rather, we are sent on a certain mission into the world
EXAMPLES:
A. Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world…”
B. I Corinthians 5:9-11 “9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world… since then you would need to go out of the world.
C. Jeremiah 29:4-7 5 Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit. 6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters — that you may be increased there, and not diminished. 7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace
