TEXT: LUKE 19:1-10

TITLE: CONSCIOUS AND INTENTIONAL MINISTRY IN THE MOMENT

INTRODUCTION

A. This is Christmas Day – The day that we celebrate Jesus’ birth

B. Many have images of the Nativity (Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus)

C. However for some, Jesus never grows up…

D. On today, more than Jesus coming to a stable in Bethlehem or coming to this world, Jesus desires to come into my house – that is, my life

ZACCHAEUS

A. He was Chief Tax Collector

B. He was rich

C. He sought to see who Jesus was

D. Who is this Jesus? Who is this man?

HE RAN AHEAD AND CLIMBED A SYCAMORE TREE TO SEE HIM

A. The crowd was large and Zacchaeus was short

B. Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem to die on the cross

C. What drove Zacchaeus up that tree?

D. Have you taken a look at Jesus?

E. What can a look do? It depends on how you see Jesus…

JESUS LOOKED UP AND SAW ZACCHAEUS

A. As Zacchaeus saw Jesus, Jesus also saw Zacchaeus

B. Jesus, “Hurry, and come down. Today, I must stay at your house”

1. Must = It is necessary

2. Stay = To continue to be present; to live

C. Did Zacchaeus know who it was that was asking to come to his house?

D. As you are looking at Jesus, Jesus is looking at you

E. He sees everything, yet He is saying, “It is necessary for me to continue to be present/live in your house” Your house is your life…

RESPONSE

A. Zacchaeus, hurried down and received Him joyfully

B. Zacchaeus was never the same after Jesus entered his life

C. You will never be the same after Jesus enters into your life
