PASTOR D’S PEN – 02-01-2026

This month, in response to the consistent unfolding of events associated with ICE and the federal government, I am sharing a message from our Executive Minister, Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell.

Share Resources with Immigrant Members and Neighbors: We have assembled resources on our website, including resources from Forward Latino and other organizations. They now have videos in English and Spanish on how to prepare families if ICE comes to your door, a list of attorneys, Know Your Rights information, and more. You can print out the family toolkits for members of your church and for your community. https://www.abcofwi.org/church-resources/community-resources/

Contact your Senators and Representatives. I urge you to contact your legislators, demand accountability from ICE, and urge them to stop ICE from going door to door in neighborhoods, entering churches and schools, and to stop ICE from coming to Wisconsin:

Senator Tammy Baldwin: https://www.baldwin.senate.gov/contact/contact-tammy

Senator Ron Johnson: https://www.ronjohnson.senate.gov/contact

Find your US representative here (enter zip code): https://www.house.gov/representatives

Learn about how whistles are used and consider sharing them with your churches. We have some whistles in the region office and hope to have some kits ready to pick up this week. You can learn about how to use whistles here (foldable printable or poster) You can print posters to put up on community boards and share whistles with neighbors.

Connect with other pastors and churches for prayer and action. The Wisconsin Council of Churches is a great way to connect with resources and to learn more, but I also urge you to connect with the pastors of the churches closest to you. Gather for prayer at some point this week. Connect with local groups who are working to help immigrant neighbors.
