TITLE: JESUS, I NEED A MIRACLE LORD, I NEED A MIRACLE
TEXT: JOSHUA 6:1-27
A. Wall
1. 12 – 17 feet high
2. 5 – 6.6 feet wide
B. Mud brick wall on top of that
1. 20-26 feet high
2. 6 feet wide
C. Embankment going up to another inside wall
1. 46 feet above the ground level
2. The city was considered impenetrable
YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT?
A. I knew God was going to do it
1. I have given Jericho into your hand
2. Its king and its mighty men of valor
B. I did not know how God was going to do it
1. Walk around the city once a day for six days
a. The armed guard went first
b. Followed by seven priests carrying seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark
c. Followed by the ark
d. Followed by the rear guard
e. Followed by the people
f. Joshua commanded the people, “You shall not shout or let your voice be heard, nor shall you utter a word, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.”
2. On the seventh day
a. They marched around the city seven times
b. On the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!”
c. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpets, they raised a great shout
C. God will do it in a way that only God could have done it, and will get the glory
1. What military strategy ever included walking around the wall of the city?
2. How could a wall of that magnitude be brought down by shouting?
3. The people did nothing of their own power and strength to bring the wall down VICTORY
A. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpets, they raised a great shout
B. The wall fell down flat; so the people charged straight ahead into the city and captured it
C. They completely destroyed everything in the city with their swords – men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, goats, and donkeys
D. So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout all the country
E. Joshua received the victory – God received the glory
