TEXT: EXODUS 14:1-31
TITLE: JESUS, I NEED A MIRACLE
A. Attacked from the outside
1. God hardened Pharaoh’s heart and the Egyptians pursued Israel
2. With Pharaoh in his chariot, 600 of his best chariots, all the rest of his chariots with its captains and his army
3. Pharaoh’s army – all his horses and chariots, his horsemen, and his troops caught up with the people of Israel
B. Attacked from the inside: The Children of Israel complained to Moses
1. Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness?
2. What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
3. Is this not the very thing we told you in Egypt, ‘Let us alone and let us serve the Egyptians’?
4. For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness
C. At times, we are attacked
1. Attacked from the outside
2. Attacked from the inside
YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT?
A. I knew God was going to do it
1. Do not be afraid. Stand still [stand firm], and see the salvation [deliverance] of the Lord...
2. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again
3. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace [be quiet]
B. I did not know how God was going to do it
1. Why are you crying out to Me?
2. Tell the children of Israel to go forward
3. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall
go on dry ground through the midst of the sea
C. God will do it in a way that God gets the glory
1. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them
2. I will gain glory for myself... And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord
D. God will do it in a way that only God could have done it
1. The angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them
2. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between them
3. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side
4. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided.
5. The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and their left
VICTORY
A. The Egyptians pursued, and went into the sea after them
1. The Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion.
2. He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving
3. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt.”
4. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the
Egyptians... The water flowed back and covered the entire army of Pharaoh... Not one of them survived.
B. The Lord saved Israel that day from the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore
C. So the people feared the Lord and believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
