To often, perhaps far too often, some tend not to expect greater things for others because they tend not to believe that the individual can be transformed from who they are to who God desires that they be.
Notwithstanding, they forget, or at least do not consider where they were and from where God brought them. They sometimes forget, or at least do not consider that their transformation was not a unique occurrence that only happened once in the history of humanity. They sometimes forget, or at least do not consider that God transformed and liberated them to be positioned to assist in the transformation and liberation of others.
Our text for today, challenges and encourages us to remember and consider how we were able to come from where we have come. We are challenged and encouraged to remember and consider that it was Jesus who removed the demons from our lives.
We understand that demons come in different forms. The demons may appear in the form of drugs, alcohol, sex, money, power, control, defiance, jealousy, envy, rebellion, messy, bad attitude, trifling behavior, combative spirit, etc. These demons distract our focus and attention away from God and the things of God and places our focus and attention on the pursuit, acquisition and maintenance self-satisfying and self-gratifying things.
We further understand that demons have no control and/or authority over us. Demons cannot (and know that they cannot) hold a person in bondage forever. Demons know (and know that they know) that the power of God can remove them from the lives of those they have possessed…
There are people who need to know that they are not resolved to live the remainder of their lives with demons. They need to know that Jesus will speak to the demons in their lives, and when He does, He knows exactly what to say to them. They need to know that Jesus will command the demons to let them go so that they can live in the freedom offered by the future rather than the bondage settled for from the past. They need to know that they can expect greater things to happen in their lives as they acknowledge that their past does not dictate their future.
Even more, they need to know that there are men and women of God who are also expecting greater things for them and are willing to walk with them as Jesus sets them free. Pilgrim Rest, they need to know us…
