TITLE: PRAYING AND GETTING WHAT YOU WANT
TEXT: LUKE 11:9-13
ASK
A. Ask, and it will be given to you (Ask = Keep on asking)
1. It will be given to you
B. Whoever asks, receives
1. Receives = I am receiving while I am asking
2. As I keep on asking, I know that I am receiving it while I am asking
C. Example: A friend who comes at midnight
SEEK
A. Seek, and you will find
1. Seek = Keep on seeking
2. You will find
B. What does it mean to seek
1. We seek Consciously - We know for what we are seeking
2. We seek Intentionally - We know for what we are seeking is where we are seeking
C. Those who seek, find
1. Find = I am finding while I am seeking
2. As I keep on seeking, I know that I am finding it while I am seeking
APPLICATION:
A. Example:
1. Fathers, if your child asks for bread will you give him a stone?
2. If your child asks for a fish, will you give him a serpent instead of a fish?
3. If your child asks for an egg, will you offer him a scorpion?
B. If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit [Matthew 7:11, Good things] to those who ask Him!
1. Romans 8:26 - So we will know how to pray for what we pray for
2. 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 - Paul, in his flesh, prayed for the thorn to be removed
3. Matthew 26:41 - Jesus in the garden, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
4. Luke 22:43 - As Jesus was in the garden, an angel appeared to Him from
heaven, strengthening Him
C. Therefore, I am Conscious, Intention and Persistent in What I Ask/What I Seek
1. I know what I want (What God wants), and I know God has what I want
2. As I keep on asking, I know that I am receiving it while I am asking
3. I know for what I am seeking, and I know for what I am seeking is where I am seeking
4. As I keep on seeking, I know that I am finding it while I am seeking
5. Therefore, I am Persistent in my prayer requests because I know that I am going to get what I want
