TITLE: EXPECTING EXPERIENCING MIRACLES
TEXT: MATTHEW 15:21-28
INTRODUCTION
- Expectation is powerful
- Our level of expectation indicates how badly we desire what we want
- Our level of expectation determines what we are willing to do to receive what we want
- How badly do I want what I expect, and what am I willing to do to receive it?
EXPECTATION
- A Syrian woman from Phoenicia begged Jesus to heal her daughter of demon
- The woman was an outsider
- Outsiders have expectations of Jesus
- Outsiders have expectations of Jesus’ people
- The woman called Jesus “Lord” and “Son of David”
- She had an expectation that Jesus would do something.
REJECTION
- Jesus ignored the woman / the Disciples dismissed the woman
- Note:
- God’s silence does not mean God’s absence…
- God not speaking does not mean God not hearing…
- God not speaking does not mean God not caring…
- Jesus rejected the woman
- “This is not your “Time”
- There is a difference between “Time” and “Turn”
- “Turn” which leads to frustrations / comparisons
- “Time” leads to waiting on and trusting in God
RESPONSES
