TITLE: FAITH TO PROCLAIM IMPOSSIBLE THINGS
TEXT: MARK 16:1-20
INTRODUCTION
- While on earth, Jesus said some potentially, impossible things…
- Perhaps, the most potentially, impossible thing that Jesus said was,
- Mark 8:31 “And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.”
- Mark 9:31 “For He taught His disciples and said to them, ‘The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.’”
- Mark 10:33, 34 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles; 34 and they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the
third day He will rise again.”
PROCLAMATION COMPLICATION
- Internal Challenge
- The Disciples did not understand
- Sometimes we do not understand, and are afraid to ask
- External Challenge
- The Disciples did not believe
- Sometimes we do not believe
- Eternal Challenge
- The Holy Spirit makes everything make sense
- Luke 24:8 – The angel reminded them that Jesus said He would be crucified and rise on the third day, and they remembered His words
- John 2:22 – When Jesus had risen from the dead, the disciples remembered His words
- John 12:16 – The Disciples did not understand at first, when Jesus was glorified they remembered
- John 20:9 – After Jesus rose from the dead, they had not yet known the scriptures, that He must rise again from the dead
- Mark 9:9, 10 – The Disciples did not know what rising from the dead meant
- The Holy Spirit will remind me and explain to me the Scriptures
- The Holy Spirit makes everything make sense
GOD IS FAITHFUL…
- Jesus appeared and rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart
- Jesus told them to go into the word and tell everyone
- Jesus provided signs as evidence of those who believe
- They went out preaching everywhere, the Lord worked with them and confirmed
the word through the accompanying signs
