TITLE: WHAT DO I DO WHEN ADVERSITY COMES? WORSHIP
TEXT: JONAH 1:1-3:4
YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING WRONG
- God, “Go to Nineveh…”
- Jonah went in the opposite direction
- Jonah knew that he was wrong…
- We know when we are wrong…
THEN, EVERYTHING GOES WRONG
- Because Jonah is doing everything wrong, everything goes wrong
- At times we are doing everything wrong
- Problem: At times we are doing everything wrong, then we are surprised when everything goes wrong…
WHAT DO YOU DO? WHY? ---- Before you answer:
- God is Omnipresent
- Jonah thought he could run from the presence of the LORD
- When we try to run from God, we ultimately run into Him
- Psalm 139:8-12
- God is Omnipotent
- The LORD sent a great wind on the sea causing a violent storm
- They tried to row to shore, but could not because the sea grew more violent against them
- After throwing Jonah into the sea, it calmed
- The LORD prepared a great fish that swallowed Jonah
- The LORD sent a great wind on the sea causing a violent storm
- God is Omniscient
- God knew that Jonah was going to go to Nineveh to preach
- How? “When God tells me something today, He is already in the future watching it happen”
- God also knew that Jonah needed some motivating…
WHY DO YOU WORSHIP GOD? GOD IS STILL BLESSING YOU
- Jonah realized in the midst of his disobedience, God was blessing
- The violent storm was an act of grace – a blessing
- The fish that swallowed Jonah was an act of grace – a blessing
- Grace? God could have chosen to kill Jonah…
- Sometimes, blessings are not what we receive, but what we do not receive
- Sometimes, blessings are not what we receive that appears to be good, but what we receive that appear to be bad
