Pastor’s Pen:

Happy Women’s History Month!

Honoring the Women Who Carried the Light.

Women's History Month invites us not only to look back at history, but to look up - and recognize the hand of God moving through the lives of women across every generation.

From the very beginning, God entrusted women with a sacred purpose. Deborah led a nation with wisdom and courage (Judges 4). Esther risked her life to speak truth to power at the risk of her own life. Mary Magdalene was the first commissioned to proclaim the resurrection — making her, as many theologians note, an apostle to the apostles (John 20:17-18).

The writer of Proverbs 31 describes a woman of valor — not merely domestic, but industrious, wise, generous, and strong. She is a woman whose work speaks before she does.

This legacy did not end with Scripture. It continued through Harriet Tubman, who said God told her which way to go. Through Fannie Lou Hamer, who testified before a nation and a God she trusted completely. Through unnamed women in every congregation who prayed, sacrificed, taught, and held the church together when no one was watching.

As Galatians 3:28 reminds us, in Christ there is neither male nor female — only heirs together of God's grace. This month, we honor the women who carried the light — and we challenge one another to keep it burning.

To God be the glory.
