Pastor’s Pen:
Both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed in October, are opportunities to reflect on how faith can offer healing, resilience, and hope. These observances remind us that the body and spirit are deeply connected, and communities of faith can bring light to those walking through darkness. As we practice living faith, we look for ways to support and uplift those who are impacted by societal issues on a daily basis.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast Cancer Awareness Month calls us to pray for those facing the difficult journey of diagnosis treatment, or survivorship. It is a time to uplift them with compassion and remind them that the God who made their bodies also offers strength for their spirits. The Bible teaches that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” (Psalm 139:14) and that truth brings encouragement during moments when illness tests our strength. As a faith community we can serve by offering prayer, presence, and practical support—walking with women and families just as Christ walks with us.
Domestic Violence Awareness
Domestic Violence Awareness Month highlights the urgent need for safety, dignity, and justice for survivors. Scripture reminds us that God is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34). Faith-centered awareness acknowledges that no one is called to endure abuse, and that God’s love brings liberation, not oppression. As the body of believers, we are called to be safe havens where voices are heard, scars are tended, and healing can begin through Christ’s love and community care.
Prayer:
Lord, we pray for strength for those battling breast cancer and safety for those escaping the pain of violence. Use us as vessels of Your love, instruments of Your peace, and voices of Your truth. May Your healing presence surround the brokenhearted and bring hope to every weary soul.
In the Mighty and Precious Name of Jesus the Christ.
Amen
