Living for God: the Time is Now – Pastor Martin Childs Jr. D. Min.

TITLE: LIVING FOR GOD: NOW IS THE TIME

TEXT:  1 PETER 4:1-5

INTRODUCTION

A. The Resurrection is over…
B. Christ did His part
1. Christ suffered once for sins – the just for the unjust
2. To bring us to God
C. Wake Up, Walk Right, Jesus Made it Possible
D. Now what?

CHRIST SUFFERED FOR ME

A. Since Christ suffered for me in the flesh
1. I arm myself with the same mindset that He had
2. I am ready to suffer also
B. Test: If I am willing to suffer for Christ, I am willing to stop sinning
C. Can I pass this test?

THEREFORE

A. I do not desire to spend the rest of my life pursuing evil human desires
B. I desire to spend the rest of my life doing the will of God

C. Paul’s challenge in Romans 7
1. I do not understand why I do what I do
2. It is not the Law. The Law is good
3. Principle: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me
4. I love God’s law with all my heart, but there is another power within me that is at war with my mind.
5. Therefore, in my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin
D. I have wasted too much time in the past doing what ungodly people enjoy doing when I walked in (implying that I no longer walk in it…)
1.Lewdness – excesses of all kinds
2. Lusts – especially fleshly lusts
3. Personal
4. Drunkenness – overflow of wine
5. Revelries – wild parties
6. Drinking parties
7. Abominable idolatries.
E. My old friends cannot understand why I do not run with them anymore, and they talk about me
