EXPECTING EXPERIENCING MIRACLES – PASTOR MARTIN CHILDS JR D. MIN.

TITLE: EXPECTING EXPERIENCING MIRACLES

TEXT: MATTHEW 15:21-28

INTRODUCTION

  1. Expectation is powerful
    1. Our level of expectation indicates how badly we desire what we want
    2. Our level of expectation determines what we are willing to do to receive what we want
  1. How badly do I want what I expect, and what am I willing to do to receive it?

EXPECTATION

  1. A Syrian woman from Phoenicia begged Jesus to heal her daughter of demon
  2. The woman was an outsider
    1. Outsiders have expectations of Jesus
    2. Outsiders have expectations of Jesus’ people
  3. The woman called Jesus “Lord” and “Son of David”
  4. She had an expectation that Jesus would do something.

REJECTION

  1. Jesus ignored the woman / the Disciples dismissed the woman
  2. Note:
    1. God’s silence does not mean God’s absence…
    2. God not speaking does not mean God not hearing…
    3. God not speaking does not mean God not caring…
  3. Jesus rejected the woman
    1. “This is not your “Time”
    2. There is a difference between “Time” and “Turn”
    3. “Turn” which leads to frustrations / comparisons
    4. “Time” leads to waiting on and trusting in God

RESPONSES

  1. How you respond indicates the level of expectation that you have in receiving that for which you are asking
  1. The woman bowed down and worshipped Jesus
    1. The woman’s expectation was affirmed in how badly she wanted her daughter healed, and her willingness to continue to beg Jesus
    2. The woman expected Jesus to “do something”
  2. Again, Jesus rejected the woman
  3. Again, the woman expected Jesus to “do something”
  4. Again, how badly do I want what I want, and what am I willing to do?

OUTCOME

  1. Jesus was impressed with her faith
  2. Her daughter was immediately healed
